Obituary of John Paulson
John Paulson, 81, of Clinton, died peacefully at the Siegenthaler Hospice Center & Palliative Care on Monday 16, 2015.
He was born on April 8, 1933 in Herkimer, NY. He attended Herkimer Schools and graduated from Utica College in 1950. He attended Albany Law School. He served in the US Navy from 1954-1955. On October 19, 1957 He was united in marriage to Sharron Cartwright in the Stone Presbyterian Church in Clinton, NY.
Cartwright Paulson, Waldorf, Maryland and Bradford John Paulson, Clinton, NY. He is also survived by the love of his life, his granddaughter, Karra Elizabeth Paulson. He also leaves his sister, Katherine (Jerry) Sakowski, Greenville, North Carolina and brother-in-law, Dennis Cartwright, New Hartford. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He began his career in insurance when he joined The Allstate Insurance Company. He was a Casualty Unit Manager with Allstate from 1957 -1974. He then joined the Utica National Insurance Group from 1974-1998 as Assistant Vice- President, Property Unit. After his retirement, he ran his own firm, Paulson Adjusting Company.
He was a member of The NY State Association of Magistrates National Association. He served on the Arson and Claim Committee on NY Property Insurance Underwriting Assoc. He was the company representative on National Assoc. of Independent Insurance Adjusters. He belonged to the Loss Executive Assoc where he served on the Executive Committee, was Treasurer, President and was later the convention planner. He belonged to The Utica Claim Assoc. He was an Honorary member of the NY Assoc. of Independent Insurance Adjusters and was Convention Chairman of Property Loss Bureau.
He served as Chairman, Oneida County Arson Task Force from 1982 through the present.
A Mason, he belonged to the Hampton Lodge#347 of Clinton and Westmoreland and served as Master in 1967.
He was very active in politics. He was elected Town Justice in 1965 and was The Kirkland Town Supervisor from 1970-1979. During his years in office the Town Highway Building was built, the Oneida County Ambulance Corps was created and Senior Citizen Center was started. He was involved both in the planning and completion of the Kirkland Town Park. He served as a Republican State Committeeman from 1982 to the present.
An avid golfer, John belonged to the Skenandoa Golf Club of Clinton for 50 years.
John was a talented carpenter. He completely designed and built his house as well as many pieces of furniture for his home and as gifts. He also built the stone fireplace in the Skenandoa during its renovation.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours and a private service will be held later in the spring.
